While the game release is almost around the corner, we would like to share more details on the novelties we have introduced.
Interactive objects – buttons – are among the key gameplay components.
We have buttons of various action types:
All of them have different action principles and looks. Previously, they all look the same and it was quite confusing.
We have made them visually different. It affected not only the way the buttons look and the overall game visuals, but also the gameplay itself. The player now gets a minor hint.
Also following the revision of the lighting and assembly of all locations, it became clear that in order to maintain the colour consistency, we had to change the azure phantoms. Hence they were visually changed.

October 2016 - Update #2
Good day everyone,
It’s high time to share some news and novelties. As it was stated before the Renoir project switched the developer (presently the game is being developed by Black Wing Foundation). Hence there are some considerable changes.
Let’s touch upon the latest of them:
1. The project is no longer 2D:
The key contents are now 3D with additional 2D elements – sprites.
Benefits:
“True Light”
Visual depth (the image is not flat)
Interesting and complex effects
High quality graphics, owing to the use of UE4
Have a look at the screenshots below and judge for yourself:

2. The protagonist underwent serious changes:
Right now he correlates more to his story and the game genre.
Not only his face was changed, but the entire model: raincoat, suit, shoes.
Left – previous model, right - new:
So, what is the team busy with now:
The cinematics development is currently the top priority, since it’s a very important, narrative part of the game.
We are unveiling the story of James’ love, his friends and the events that led to his death.
At the moment we can just say that the story dwells upon a ‘femme fatale’, man-to-man friendship, and a mysterious supporting protagonist. And surely how could we do a story without the Good & Evil face-off.
August 2016 - Update #1
Dear friends,
Today we start updating you with project status, and we do have so much to share with you!
First of all, Renoir was acquired from Soulbound Games by 1C Company (the Leading Eastern and Central European publisher). BWF became the new developer. The company specializes in full-cycle game development since 2007 (with extensive 8-year Unreal Engine-based development expertise). So the lads know what they are doing.
Following the switch of the developer, Renoir faced some considerable changes in:
· Level Design
· Core features
· The Story
· Graphics
· In-game trailers
Right now, let’s start with Item 1 – Level Design. All puzzles in the initial project were planned to take place not indoor, but in the open areas – parks, streets, city outskirts (outdoor).
The concept was amended and now all locations have both out- and indoor puzzles, but more of the latter. They are located in important locations, namely Cemetery, City Council, Precinct, and Monument.
The only location with more outdoor puzzles is the Cemetery. But owing to the effects and the use of 3D objects, now it looks completely different compared to the original design of the locations.

In-game trailers:
The original plan was to use CG trailers, now we have changed them with comics-style cinematics to underline the noire atmosphere.

Well, till next time! Stay tuned for constant updates and more!
James Renoir was a police officer, serving in the main precinct in a metropolis rotten with crime and violence. The influence of the mafia families had even spread through the corridors of city hall like poisonous weeds, all the way to the highest levels of political power. The police, paralyzed by the city’s corrupt government, were powerless to do anything about it – mere toys in the hands of the true power.
However, with a new, young and aspiring politician in city hall, things take a turn for the better and Renoir is promoted to Detective for his effort in the fight against crime. With his new-found access to better classes of society, he eventually meets the woman of his dreams.
But just as everything seems to be heading in the right direction, two shots ring out, turning his world upside-down. Solving this case is now the only thing that matters to him, because as he sits with his back against a cold gravestone, he realizes that the body six feet down is his own...
Now a ghost, Renoir possesses a unique ability that allows him to control phantoms around him and use them to solve environmental puzzles. Seeking justice from the shadows, he must tread carefully and avoid light at all costs. James’s ghostly form must backtrack over his last steps in the world of the living, recollecting his memories and searching for the clues that will lead him back to his murderer.
